Reading Festival 2026 runs Thursday 27 to Sunday 30 August at Richfield Avenue. The published set times cover at least 155 sets across seven stages. We put them all in a spreadsheet and worked out the best possible route. Allowing ten minutes to walk between stages, one person can watch about 45 sets start to finish — under a third of the bill, and only if you stay up until 3am.

How many acts can you actually see at Reading 2026?

About 45. That is the theoretical maximum, worked out by a computer, and no real person would walk that route.

The figure is stable. Change the assumptions and it moves between 43 and 45. Count only the stages published with both a start and a finish time and it lands at 37 out of 110. Either way, roughly seven in ten acts on the poster are unreachable for any one ticket holder.

What we used, and what we estimated

  • Solid: The Grid, The Gallery, The Warehouse and The Ballroom were published with start and finish times, as were the Thursday sessions and The Yard's Sunday programme.
  • Estimated: The Canopy and The Bus went out with start times only. We modelled those with ten-minute changeovers and a 40-minute closing set.
  • Incomplete: the circulated timings describe themselves as covering the main stages, so 155 is a floor, not a total.
  • Subject to change: check the festival app on the day.

Friday 28 August: the choices you have to make

2pm — Cardinals or the TBA?

Cardinals (The Ballroom) and the unnamed TBA slot (The Gallery) both run 2pm–2.45pm. Identical to the minute. Keo is on The Grid 1.55pm–2.50pm, so all three cancel each other out.

4.15pm — Declan McKenna, Skye Newman or Overpass?

  • Declan McKenna — The Grid, 4.15pm–5.30pm
  • Overpass — The Ballroom, 4.25pm–5.25pm
  • Skye Newman — The Gallery, 4.35pm–5.20pm

Eight sets overlap in total. Skye Newman is the only one you could half-catch and still make something else.

5.45pm — Skepta, Geese or Florence Road?

The worst clash on the Friday. Geese and Florence Road have been given the exact same slot, 5.55pm–6.55pm, on The Gallery and The Ballroom respectively. Both sit inside Skepta on The Grid (5.45pm–7pm). There is no route that gets you two of the three.

7.45pm — Charli xcx or SINN6R?

Both start at 7.45pm. Charli xcx runs to 9pm on The Grid, SINN6R to 8.45pm in The Gallery.

9.40pm — Fontaines D.C., Josh Baker, Skepta b2b Prospa or YT?

  • Josh Baker — The Gallery, 9.40pm–10.40pm
  • Skepta b2b Prospa — The Warehouse, 9.40pm–11.30pm
  • YT — The Ballroom, 9.50pm–10.35pm
  • Fontaines D.C. — The Grid, 9.55pm–11.25pm

YT finishes first, so YT into the back half of Fontaines D.C. is the only workable double.

Saturday 29 August: the choices you have to make

3.20pm — Jane Remover, Maisie Peters or Kingfishr?

4.40pm — bar italia, JADE or Duke Dumont?

Three starts inside ten minutes, eight sets overlapping. The tightest window of the day.

8pm — Dave, Viagra Boys or SPEED?

Viagra Boys (8.15pm–9.15pm) fit entirely inside Dave (8.05pm–9.20pm). Not a partial clash — there is no minute of one you can watch without losing the other. SPEED is on 8pm–9pm in The Ballroom.

10.05pm — RAYE or Gunna?

Both start at 10.05pm. RAYE runs to 11.35pm on The Grid, Gunna to 11.05pm in The Gallery. Niko B is on 10pm–10.45pm in The Ballroom if you want a third option.

Sunday 30 August: the choices you have to make

1.40pm — Holly Humberstone or Westside Cowboy?

Holly Humberstone is 1.40pm–2.25pm in The Gallery, Westside Cowboy 1.45pm–2.30pm in The Ballroom. Arthur Hill is on The Grid from 1.55pm. Eight sets running at once, before most of the site has arrived.

3.15pm — the Special Guest

The unnamed slot on The Grid runs 3.15pm–4.10pm with eleven other sets against it. Whoever it turns out to be, a lot of people will miss it.

4.15pm — Men I Trust, Loyle Carner or Chloe Qisha?

  • Chloe Qisha — The Ballroom, 4.05pm–5.05pm
  • Men I Trust — The Gallery, 4.15pm–5.15pm
  • Loyle Carner — The Grid, 4.30pm–5.45pm

Ten sets overlap Loyle Carner. This is the busiest patch of the weekend.

7.50pm — Kettama, Florence + The Machine or Wisp?

  • Wisp — The Ballroom, 7.30pm–8.30pm
  • Kettama — The Gallery, 7.50pm–8.50pm
  • Florence + The Machine — The Grid, 7.55pm–9.10pm

10.05pm — Chase & Status or Kneecap?

The one everyone will argue about. Both start at 10.05pm — Chase & Status Live to 11.35pm on The Grid, Kneecap to 11.05pm in The Gallery. Paris Paloma (9.50pm–10.35pm, The Ballroom) is the only other band-stage option.

Who's on against the headliners?

Fewer acts than you'd expect. Fontaines D.C. and Dave each have only three other sets running against them. Reading empties the site for its main stage after dark.

Which means committing to every Grid closer costs you almost nothing. Force all six into the route and the maximum drops by roughly one set across the whole weekend. Your losses happen in the afternoon, not at night.

What the schedule tells you

The Gallery is no longer a support stage. It matches The Grid's closing time to the minute on Saturday and Sunday. That reads as a choice: two headliners, pick one.

The choice runs out as the site fills up. Seven stages are running at once on Sunday afternoon. By 9pm only four are still programming, and there are stretches where only one is actually playing.

The Warehouse barely stops. On the published times it runs unbroken from midday to 3am on Friday and Saturday, and there are windows each night — around 7pm to 7.30pm on Friday, and again late on — where it looks like the only stage playing at all.

How to plan around it

  1. Sort your closers first. After 9pm you're picking between three or four things and the sets are long.
  2. Expect to lose the afternoon. Around 66 of the 155 sets start between 2pm and 6pm.
  3. Leave early on purpose. Getting past 45 sets means half-sets and a plan.
  4. Check the app. Times move, and gaps in a schedule have a habit of filling up.

So what does that actually leave you with?

Boiled all the way down, the weekend is a list of either/ors. You can have:

  • Cardinals or the TBA — both 2pm–2.45pm, Friday
  • Geese or Florence Road — both 5.55pm–6.55pm, Friday
  • Charli xcx or SINN6R — both from 7.45pm, Friday
  • Dave or Viagra Boys — Saturday, and not a minute of both
  • RAYE or Gunna — both from 10.05pm, Saturday
  • Holly Humberstone or Westside Cowboy — Sunday lunchtime
  • Chase & Status or Kneecap — both from 10.05pm, Sunday

And one bigger choice sits underneath all of them. Plant yourself in front of The Grid for three days and you'll see 21 sets. Work the whole site properly and you'll get to about 45. What you can't do is have both — the schedule simply doesn't allow for a weekend where you catch the main stage and everything you'd earmarked in The Ballroom. Pick which festival you're going to, and go to that one.
