About Revenant V - Whitby Goth Weekend (WGW) - Spring

Whitby Goth Weekend began as a pen-friend meet-up at the Elsinore Pub in 1994. For 2027, Revenant V - Whitby Goth Weekend (WGW) - Spring runs in Whitby from 30 April to 2 May as a music event tied to that wider gothic weekend. Its sound sits across gothic, industrial, rock, metal and alternative.

The WGW story widened quickly. A handful of traders established the Bizarre Bazaar Alternative Market in 1995, and the weekend moved to a twice-yearly pattern in 1997. The market now runs to over 100 indoor stalls.

Who Is It For?

The crowd comes from the alternative and goth community, with families folded into the weekend. Children and teenagers are regular attendees. There is no formal minimum age, and under-14s can attend ticketed live-music events free with a paying parent or legal guardian. Parental discretion is advised.

The Venue and Site

The live-music room is the Royal Hotel ballroom on West Cliff, at The Royal Hotel Whitby, YO21 3HA. The Revenant Lounge acts as an inclusive, accessible social hub for free daytime community events and DJ nights. Meet and greets, family activities, horror quiz and spooky bingo sit around the music.

The WGW info stall is at Whitby Leisure Centre, and the official Bizarre Bazaar trading areas are free of charge.

Travel

Whitby sits on the North Yorkshire coast, around 19.8 miles from Scarborough, 31 miles from Middlesbrough and about 50 miles by road from York.

• Nearest station: Whitby railway station, about a 10-minute walk from the Royal Hotel.
• Road access: routes into Whitby include the A171 from Scarborough and via Guisborough/Teesside, the A64 via York to Malton then the A169 through Pickering, and the A174 coastal route from Teesside.
• Parking: on-site parking at the rear of the Royal Hotel is limited and should be reserved ahead; charges are typically £8 per car per night.
• Other parking: Whitby also has town-centre pay-and-display car parks and a Park & Ride on the western outskirts.
