About Shindig

Shindig is an independent music and arts festival set amongst the beautiful parkland and historic arboretum of Charlton Park Estate near Malmesbury, Wiltshire.

Bringing together around 10,000 people over the May Bank Holiday weekend, Shindig combines an eclectic programme of live music and DJs with art, performance, creativity, wellbeing, family adventures and plenty of unexpected discoveries amongst the trees.

Proudly independent and deliberately intimate, it's big enough for incredible artists, ambitious production and late-night adventures, but small enough that you'll keep bumping into the same faces and feel part of something.

The music

Musically, Shindig has never fitted neatly into one genre. Previous artists include Sister Sledge, De La Soul, WAR, Soul II Soul, Roy Ayers, The Heavy, Seun Kuti & Egypt 80, Bob Vylan, Gilles Peterson, Groove Armada, Goldie, Mr Scruff, Norman Jay MBE, Todd Terry, Kenny Dope, Andrew Weatherall and Dub FX.

The 2027 line-up will be announced soon.

Beyond the stages

Shindig is about far more than its line-up. Across the site you'll find extraordinary art installations, woodland spaces, circus and cabaret, workshops, craft, wellbeing, children's activities and all manner of unexpected side quests.

The arboretum

The arboretum is at the heart of it, and it's what makes Shindig such an unusual place to explore — woodland clearings and hidden spaces become part of the festival itself. Shindig describes itself as the UK's only music and arts festival set within an arboretum.

The joy is in the discovery.

Families

Shindig has a genuinely multi-generational audience, with children and families part of the wider festival rather than cordoned off from it.

Alongside the music and arts programme there are dedicated children's activities, creative workshops and family spaces, and children are welcome to experience much of the rest of the festival alongside their parents.

Kids aged 0–12 go free, with reduced-price Teen tickets for 13–17s and Young Adult tickets for 18–25s.

Travel

Charlton Park is in Wiltshire, with Swindon, Bath and Bristol all listed as less than 30 miles away. London is approximately 100 miles from the site, and Birmingham is approximately 80 miles away.

• Nearest stations: Chippenham is 12 miles away and Swindon is 17 miles away.
• Road access: the festival lists the A429, B4040, M4 junction 17, M5 junction 11a and A350.
• Parking: all-weekend parking is available, with advance car park passes listed at £40 and higher prices on arrival.
• Accessible parking: accessible car parking can be requested from stewards.
• Car park facilities: the travel page says the car park has no facilities.
