Youth
Youth is the stage name of Martin Glover, a producer and bassist from Farnworth, United Kingdom, born in 1960. He is a founding member of Killing Joke and is also known for work across dub, ambient, psytrance and related electronic styles. Glover is associated with the label Youth Sounds and with WAU! Mr. Modo Recordings.
Career
Glover works as an influential record producer as well as a musician. He is credited with founding Dragonfly Records, described as the first psychedelic trance record label, and he also sets up Liquid Sound Design and Kamaflage Records. His productions and remixes span a wide range of artists, including The Verve, Guns N' Roses, Dolores O'Riordan, Embrace, Siouxsie & the Banshees, Art of Noise, Crowded House, P.M. Dawn, Yazoo, Erasure, U2, Bananarama, INXS, James, Wet Wet Wet, Depeche Mode, The Shamen, Texas and Gravity Kills.
He wins Producer of the Year in 1998 for his work on The Verve's Urban Hymns. He also co-produces that album, and later works with Paul McCartney on The Fireman project, including Electric Arguments. Other production credits include Guns N' Roses' Chinese Democracy and Dolores O'Riordan's Are You Listening?
Collaborations and projects
Youth is involved in a number of collaborations and side projects. These include Celtic Cross with Simon Posford, The Fireman with Paul McCartney, Dub Trees with Greg Hunter and others, and Zodiac Youth. He is also a member of Transmission with Simon Tong of The Verve, Paul Ferguson of Killing Joke and Tim Bran of Dreadzone. Transmission releases the single "Noctolucent" and the album Beyond Light in 2006.
He also plays guitar on several tracks on Client's 2007 album Heartland. At one point he is listed as producing the Infadels for Wall of Sound.
Other notes
Glover is closely linked with the psychedelic trance scene and is also associated with the bands and collectives Luna, Empty Quarter, Hypnopazūzu, Chant Live and Chant Artist Collective. He is sometimes referred to simply as Youth, and is one of the better-known British figures working across rock, dub and electronic production.
