Early years and breakthrough
The band plays locally in its early years before attracting wider attention in 2007 through support slots with Saosin at Leeds Cockpit and Paramore at Colchester Arts Centre. They also support Tonight Is Goodbye on a summer tour with Death Can Dance, appear in Kerrang! magazine’s new music section, and take further support slots with Fightstar and Elliot Minor later that year.
After those tours, You Me At Six headline a Halloween show at the Kingston Peel with local support acts including Consort With Romeo and We Have A Getaway. Their debut single, Save It For the Bedroom, comes out on Slam Dunk Records in October 2007, followed by their first headline tour with Flood Of Red. In December 2007 they are announced as support for The Audition’s UK tour in early 2008.
Releases and chart success
You Me At Six are nominated for Best British Newcomer at the Kerrang! Awards 2007. They also headline London’s KOKO and play Klub Kerrang. A B-side, You’ve Made Your Bed, is added to the band’s official MySpace in December 2007.
Their debut album, Take Off Your Colours, is released through Slam Dunk Records in 2008 and reaches number 25 in the album charts in its first week. It is promoted with a single, Jealous Minds Think Alike, and a tour that begins in October 2008. The band also plays HMV stores around the country, including Oxford Street, and releases If You Run as a free download from its website. In October 2008 they are announced as support for Fall Out Boy and Boys Like Girls on their UK arena tour.
Hold Me Down and later activity
In 2009 the band heads a seven-date UK tour billed as the 777 tour, with Emarosa and The Spill Canvas. It also headlines Slam Dunk Festival at Leeds University in May 2009. The second album, Hold Me Down, is completed in 2009 and released through Virgin Records in 2010. Its first single is The Consequence, followed by Underdog as the first official new single from the album. The record is made in Reading, as is Take Off Your Colours.
You Me At Six remain active until 2025. They are known as a five-piece British rock band with Josh Franceschi on vocals, Max Helyer on guitar and backing vocals, Dan Flint on drums, Matt Barnes on bass guitar and Chris Miller on guitar.
