Yin Yin

Yin Yin is a Dutch-Thai psychedelic funk group from Maastricht, active since 2017. The band performs an eclectic mix of alternative dance, disco, funk, neo-psychedelia and pop, and it draws on East Asian music from the 1960s and 1970s. Its name is officially styled as YĪN YĪN, although it is commonly listed as Yin Yin on streaming platforms.

Style and formation

The group builds its sound around psychedelic funk and disco, with influences from East Asian sixties and seventies music. Its Maastricht origin is central to its identity, and it is a group rather than a solo project.

Releases

Yin Yin starts issuing singles in 2018, initially through the Swiss label Bongo Joe. Its debut album, The Rabbit That Hunts Tigers, appears in 2019. This is followed by The Age of Aquarius in 2022, Mount Matsu in 2024, and Yatta! in 2026.

Members

The group’s members are Erik Bandt, Kees Berkers, Yves Lennertz, Remy Scheren and Robbert Verwijlen. Kees Berkers plays drums, Erik Bandt plays guitar, Remy Scheren plays bass, and Jerôme Scheren handles keyboards. Former members include Yves Lennertz, a multi-instrumentalist, and Robbert Verwijlen, a keyboardist.
