Year of the Cobra

Year of the Cobra

Year of the Cobra is a Seattle doom metal and stoner metal duo featuring Amy Tung Barrysmith on vocals, keyboard and bass, and Jon Barrysmith on drums. Formed in 2015, the group uses its two-piece line-up to create a wide, heavy sound with clear space for each instrument, drawing on doom metal, stoner rock and psychedelia.

Recording history

After the early Black Sun EP, the group releases its debut full-length, ...In the Shadows Below, in 2016. Billy Anderson handles the production, and the record is presented as a heavy, tightly controlled statement of the band's sound. The band then follows it with the Burn Your Dead EP.

Later releases and label work

Year of the Cobra releases Ash and Dust in 2019 on Prophecy Productions. The band is also associated with the same label for its self-titled album, Year of the Cobra.

Live activity

The duo tours in Europe and the United States and appears at festivals including Psycho Las Vegas, Freak Valley Festival and Stoned Meadow of Doom.
