Yam Who?

Yam Who? is a London-based duo and DJ/production act made up of Andy Williams and Des Morgan. It begins with a meeting in the mid-1990s at a London club, after which the pair move from shared record collecting and DJ work into production. They work as a studio and DJ alias with a focus on soulful music across a wide range of styles.

Background and style

The project develops from an interest in jazz, soul, hip hop, house, R&B and broken beat, alongside a broader commitment to soulful music of many kinds. Their approach includes collaboration with other musicians and the use of live elements in the studio, which shapes the sound and working method associated with the name.

Collaborations and releases

Yam Who? work with artists from both underground and commercial black music scenes. Their collaborators include Joss Stone, Raphael Saadiq, Incognito, Azymuth and Chaz Jankel. They also record with a range of other musicians and have worked alongside Domu, DJ Spinna and Kirk Degiorgio.

Their output includes work for labels such as Ubiquity, Electric Minds, Papa and Here And Now Recordings. They are also associated with Midnight Riot Recordings, and Andy Williams is described as a London-based DJ and producer who formerly works as part of the duo with Des Morgan.
