XXYYXX is the electronic project of Orlando, Florida-based beat producer Marcel Everett, who is born in 1995. The music begins as an experimental approach to electronic production and develops around low-fidelity textures, minimalist ambience, and later cleaner, more polished sound. Improvisational jazz and abstract hip hop are listed as key influences on the project.

Style and sound

XXYYXX works across bass-heavy electronic music with an instrumental focus. The productions emphasise meditative and emotive moods, with R&B rhythms and soulful melodies used to create open, spacious tracks that still move forward. The music also draws on elements associated with future garage, post-dubstep, instrumental hip hop and wonky.

The tracks make use of claps, snaps and claves alongside low-end bass, with percussion arranged to pull in different directions. The overall effect is described as atmospheric and controlled, with a sense of luxury in the production.
