Wolf Parade
Wolf Parade is an indie rock group from Montréal, Canada. The band is active from 2003 to the present and centres on Spencer Krug, Dan Boeckner, Arlen Thompson, Hadji Bakara and Dante DeCaro. Its line-up forms around Krug, Boeckner and Thompson, with Bakara joining in 2004 and DeCaro joining in 2005 as second guitarist and percussionist.
Formation and early years
The group forms after Spencer Krug is offered a support slot for Arcade Fire. He brings in Dan Boeckner, and the two write songs with a drum machine before asking Arlen Thompson to play drums. Krug also performs in Sunset Rubdown, Frog Eyes, Moonface and Swan Lake. Boeckner previously plays in Atlas Strategic and also works with Handsome Furs. DeCaro previously performs with Hot Hot Heat and later with Johnny and the Moon.
Releases
Wolf Parade releases an eponymous debut EP in 2003 with only Krug, Boeckner and Thompson playing on it. After Bakara joins, the band issues another independent self-titled EP in 2004. Isaac Brock of Modest Mouse helps secure a deal with Sub Pop, leading to the widely distributed Wolf Parade EP. The band’s debut album, Apologies to the Queen Mary, follows in 2005. The title refers to the Queen Mary hotel, which the group is said to have trashed heavily. The second album, At Mount Zoomer, appears in 2008, and the third album, Expo 86, follows in 2010. After a period of hiatus, the band releases Cry Cry Cry in 2017.
Hiatus and return
The band enters an indefinite hiatus in 2011. It later announces a return to recording and performing in 2016.
