Witch Club Satan

Witch Club Satan is a black metal group from Oslo, Norway, active since 2022. The band begins as a theatre concept before developing into a power trio, and its sound combines black metal with experimental elements drawn from punk, pop and jazz. Its music is described as occult and feminist in approach, with a focus on the 1980s sound of black metal, before the genre settles into later templates and rules.

Line-up

The group consists of Johanna Holt Kleive on drums, Nikoline Spjelkavik on guitar and Victoria Fredrikke Schou Røising on bass. The members start playing their instruments only months before the band premieres in June 2022 with a live performance and the single “Hysteria”.

Background and influences

Witch Club Satan receives mentorship from Necrobutcher of Mayhem, who describes the group as “a breath of fresh air” and says it is what the black metal scene needs. The band’s stated influence on the genre comes from an interest in its early sound rather than later conventions.
