We Came From Wolves

We Came From Wolves are a Scottish alternative rock group formed in late 2010. The band begins as Perth singer and guitarist Kyle Charles James Burgess’s solo project, then develops into a full group with Greg Erickson on guitar, Robert Whytock on bass and vocals, and John Harcus on drums and PMX. The act is based in Perth and Glasgow and remains active.

Early line-up and live activity

After forming, the group builds a local following through melodic hooks, direct lyrics and energetic live performances. They tour the UK twice in their early period, with the first tour ending with a first overseas show in Paris and the second covering 30 dates, including venues on the O2 Academy circuit and other small venues across the UK. They also support And So I Watch You From Afar and Frightened Rabbit, including a sold-out hometown show in Perth.

Releases and radio play

Their debut EP, Cope, is released in 2012. All three singles from the EP receive airplay on BBC Radio 1’s Introducing and elsewhere, and the first music video passes 15,000 views. Greg Erickson and John Harcus leave in 2013, and Taylor White and Harrison White, formerly of Whigs & Rakes, join on guitars and drums respectively.

Relocation and further recordings

The band later relocates to Glasgow. Their second EP, Paradise Place, is released in March 2014 and receives support from Rock Sound, BBC Radio 1’s Vic Galloway, Jim Gellatly, The Skinny and Drowned in Sound, alongside local support in Scotland. A UK tour follows, with dates in France and Germany. They also play T in the Park and Wickerman Festival in July, sell out King Tut’s in August, and appear at Waves Festival in Slovakia.

Debut album

At the end of 2014, We Came From Wolves record their debut album with Bruce Rintoul, known for work with Fatherson and Twin Atlantic. They also support The Xcerts in Dundee. The first single from the self-titled album, Am I Useful?, is released in 2015 and receives worldwide airplay. The album is issued via Saraseto Records in the UK and Engineer Records in the US, followed by a UK and European tour.
