We Are Fiction

We Are Fiction are a Peterborough post-hardcore and screamo group that forms in mid-2007. The band develops a melodic mix of post-hardcore, screamo and emocore, and also fits within rock and alternative contexts.

Line-up

The band consists of Phil Barker on vocals, Marc Kuch on guitar and vocals, Andi Scott Shaw on guitar and vocals, Ryan Chambers on bass and Tom Calton on drums. Adam Lewis is a former member on guitar and vocals. In 2010, Adam leaves and Marc Kuch, a close friend and former bandmate from earlier projects, joins in his place.

Releases and label history

We Are Fiction issue a self-titled debut EP in 2008, released both physically and digitally. The band later works with Rising Records, but the partnership is brief and they then continue independently.

Live activity

The group tours extensively across the UK and builds a reputation for intense live performances. Their shows are marked by chaotic behaviour and theatrical stage moments, including dog piles, male nudity, acrobatics from speaker cabinets, hanging from roof rafters and smashing ceiling tiles.

Further activity

In 2011, the band releases the digital single “Sail On”, followed by a music video. The single brings them attention from Kerrang! Radio and leads to a slot at that year’s Hit the Deck festival, where they share bills with Underoath, Comeback Kid and Cancer Bats.
