Warmduscher
Warmduscher is a London-based post-punk band formed in 2014. The group starts as an impromptu New Year’s Eve house-party project, before becoming a regular five-piece. Its line-up includes Clams Baker Jr, the stage name of Craig Louis Higgins Jr, Lightnin’ Jack Everett, Quicksand, the stage name of Adam J Harmer, Mr. Salt Fingers Lovecraft, the stage name of Ben Romans-Hopcraft, and The Witherer, also known as Little Whiskers, the stage name of Quinn Whalley.
The initial formation includes Higgins on vocals and Harmer on drums, alongside Saul Adamczewski and Lias Kaci Saoudi of Fat White Family on bass and guitar. The later five-piece line-up replaces Harmer and Saoudi with Everett on drums, Romans-Hopcraft on bass and Whalley on noise and electronics. The band is linked to both Fat White Family and Paranoid London, and it is signed to The Leaf Label.
Recordings and releases
Warmduscher’s debut album, Khaki Tears, is released on Trashmouth Records in 2015. The band describes the title in terms of courage and emotional release, while Louder Than War calls the record “the finest of filth” and “fractured rock and roll at its best”.
In 2018, the band releases the single Big Wilma/Neon Tongues on The Leaf Label. Dan Carey produces the single, and it appears as a limited run of 300 7-inch copies. The group’s second album, Whale City, follows on The Leaf Label later that year. Warmduscher describes the album as a space for people stepping beyond their comfort zone, while other coverage describes it as full of twisted riffs and Dan Carey’s production.
The album Tainted Lunch appears in 2019 on The Leaf Label. Before its release, the band issues the single Midnight Dipper, and the album includes guest appearances by Iggy Pop and Kool Keith. BBC 6 Music places Tainted Lunch at number 6 in its Albums of the Year list for 2019.
Style and reception
Warmduscher is described as a post-punk act with elements of punk and sinister electronica. It is also associated with garage rock, crank wave, hardstyle and egg punk. Clash describes the band as one of the sleaziest and most debauched acts in London’s guitar underground.
Thilo Markwort
