Walter Benjamin is a modern songwriter who uses samplers and synths alongside a cheap acoustic guitar and a deliberately rough vocal style. He is also a piano player, although he is not seen playing the piano. His first EP is titled The Dog follows the Bull.

The name is also linked with audiobooks of Walter Benjamin, the German Marxist literary critic, essayist, translator and philosopher associated at times with the Frankfurt School of critical theory. He is also influenced by the Marxism of Bertolt Brecht and the Jewish mysticism of Gershom Scholem.
