Wallis Bird

Wallis Bird is an Irish singer-songwriter from Wexford, Ireland, with recordings issued on Bird Records. She is associated with classic pop and rock, and her work also spans folk, acoustic music, rock, jazz and contemporary styles. Bird begins releasing studio albums in the 2010s, including Architect and Home.

Career

Bird starts playing guitar at a young age and develops a distinctive right-handed, upside-down playing style after losing the fingers of her left hand in an accident as a child. She later says that this difference becomes part of her identity as a guitarist. By the age of 11, she is already involved in a range of creative work, including writing soundtracks and acting in short films and plays.

She performs on the Irish music circuit from the age of 17, building experience in small bars and larger festival settings. Before pursuing a solo career, she plays with various bands and groups. While studying at music college in Ballyfermot in Dublin, she takes part in a European music workshop in Germany in 2005, where she is assigned to a band and decides to continue working with the musicians she meets there.
