VTSS

VTSS is a Polish electronic and techno artist based in Berlin. She emerges from the radical underground club scene in Poland and builds a reputation through DJ sets and live performances that move between basement parties and large festival stages.

Background

VTSS is the performance name of Martyna Maja. She studies sound engineering, which informs her solo production work. Early in her career, she spends years DJing and performing live at the Brutaz parties and at Warsaw venue Jasna 1, playing across different time slots and room sizes, from opening sets to closing sets.

Style and releases

Her sets draw on techno, acid, EBM and hardcore, and are known for fast, forceful mixing that connects older club styles with newer forms. As a producer, she releases music on labels including Intrepid Skin, Repitch and Haven. Her Self Control EP on Haven includes the track “I Don’t Think It’s Better”, which becomes an underground favourite. She also contributes “Identity Process”, including “CODE RED”, to Repitch, and releases material on compilations for VEYL and KAOS. “Atlantyda”, on Monom Black, also becomes widely played in clubs.

Clubs, festivals and collaborations

She becomes a resident at Possession in Paris and plays at venues and events including Unter in New York, Reaktor in Amsterdam, Berghain in Berlin, Saule on Thursday nights, Atonal, CTM Festival, Unsound, Awakenings and Primavera Sound. In Berlin, she develops a following through appearances at Berghain, including sets at Saule, sometimes alongside SPFDJ or as a B2B partner.

Collaboration is a regular part of her work. She creates the B2B project Body Sushi with Randomer and collaborates with Varg. She also takes on A&R duties for Hellcat, a sub-label of Bjarki’s bbbbbb, with a focus on supporting newer artists featured in her sets.
