VINCINT is the mononym of Vincint Cannady, an American pop singer and songwriter from Philadelphia. Born in 1991, he is raised in Philadelphia and begins singing at the age of five. His father sings in the gospel group the Christ United Gospel Singers, and this early home life shapes his interest in performance. He writes his first song at twelve.
He attends Berklee College of Music and graduates in 2013. Raised Baptist, he also goes to Catholic school while growing up. He names Beyoncé, Whitney Houston, Céline Dion, Madonna, Britney Spears, Björk and Regina Spektor among the artists that inspire him early on. His singing style ranges from belting to whispery falsetto, and he describes his music as pop.
VINCINT is best known for appearing as a finalist on the first season of The Four. On the show he performs Radiohead’s “Creep” and receives unanimous approval from the judges. He later says producers try to steer him towards gospel and R&B material because of his race, and some male producers refuse to work with him. He is eliminated in the first round of the finale alongside Zhavia Ward.
Before and after his television appearance, he releases a run of singles, including “Marrow”, “Remember Me”, “Mine” and “Please Don’t Fall in Love”. “Marrow” is his debut single and has a music video directed by Jake Wilson and shot in a church in North Hollywood as a nod to his Catholic school upbringing. “Mine” and “Marrow” are produced by Pretty Sister, and “Please Don’t Fall in Love” has a video directed by Jasper Soloff.
In 2020 he releases his debut EP, The Feeling, followed by his debut studio album, There Will Be Tears, in 2021. He also releases “Be Me”, which is chosen as the anthem for the fifth season of Queer Eye, and “Hard 2 Forget”, the lead single from the album. His debut concert tour, The Getaway Tour, supports There Will Be Tears.
