Vince Staples

Vince Staples is an American rapper and actor from North Long Beach, California, specifically the Ramona Park area. Born in 1993, he works within hip hop and west coast hip hop and is associated with the label Never Go Broke.

Early career and affiliations

Staples is a member of the hip hop trio Cutthroat Boyz, alongside Aston Matthews and Joey Fatts, both fellow Californian rappers. He is also a former close associate of Odd Future, particularly Mike G and Earl Sweatshirt. His early profile grows through appearances on albums by Odd Future members and through the collaborative mixtape Stolen Youth with Mac Miller, who produces the project.

Releases

His debut EP, Hell Can Wait, includes the singles “Hands Up” and “Blue Suede”. His debut album, Summertime ’06, follows and receives critical acclaim. Big Fish Theory, his second album, draws on avant-garde, dance and electronic influences and also receives strong critical response. He later releases FM!, his third studio album.

Other work

Staples appears as part of the XXL 2015 Freshman Class and features on Gorillaz’s album Humanz. In 2024, he releases The Vince Staples Show, a Netflix project that he produces and acts in.
