VersaEmerge

VersaEmerge is an American alternative rock group from Port St. Lucie and Jensen Beach, Florida. The band is active from 2005 to 2015 and later records under the shortened name VERSA. Its sound is described as post-hardcore and alternative rock, and by 2014 it moves closer to synthpop.

Formation and early lineup

The group forms in high school around former drummer Anthony Martone and guitarist and vocalist Blake Harnage. Harnage remains the only founder member present from the beginning to the end of the band’s run. The early lineup includes Spencer Pearson on clean vocals, Anthony James on keyboards, programming and unclean vocals, Josh Center on rhythm guitar, Nick Osborne on bass, and Martone on drums.

The band quickly gains local attention, selling out its first show and building a following in its regional scene. It also draws on a wide range of influences, with Harnage citing listening habits that range from Björk to Thrice.

Releases and line-up changes

VersaEmerge releases its debut EP Cities Built On Sand in 2007. By then the group has already undergone some membership changes. The next EP, Perceptions, leads to interest from Fueled By Ramen Records and is followed by a release on that label with producer James Paul Wisner, who has worked with New Found Glory and Underoath.

Over the years the lineup changes several times. Sierra Kay Kusterbeck becomes lead vocalist in 2007 and remains until the band’s end. Other later members include James Lano and Jerry Pierce on rhythm guitar, and Devin Ingelido on bass. Nick Osborne returns as a touring bassist in 2011. Anthony Martone leaves in 2009, and Blake Harnage expands his roles across guitar, vocals, programming, bass, drums and percussion during the band’s later period.

Career highlights and later work

After the Fueled By Ramen release, VersaEmerge appears on the 2009 Vans Warped Tour. Its self-titled release follows in 2009, and the full-length Fixed At Zero comes out in 2010. The band also tours with acts including Chiodos, We The Kings, Anarbor, Conditions, Black Veil Brides, Destroy Rebuild Until God Shows, and I See Stars, and plays on the Vans Warped Tour in 2010.

Later releases include Live Acoustic in 2011, Another Atmosphere Preview in 2012, and Neon in 2014. The band disbands in 2015.
