Veronica Vasicka
Veronica Vasicka is a New York-based photographer, musician and DJ. She founds and runs the record labels Minimal Wave and Cititrax, and she also establishes Minimalwave.org as an online resource for music associated with minimal wave, cold wave, post-punk and minimal synth.
Minimal Wave and label work
She is one of the founding members of East Village Radio and manages the station during its pirate period. While collecting obscure and long unavailable recordings, she coins the term minimal wave to describe music that sits between cold wave, post-punk and minimal synth. She then begins reissuing work by artists who had recorded in very small numbers, often in home studios and with little underground circulation.
Minimal Wave focuses on stripped-back DIY synth music and related recordings. Cititrax is launched to present newer synth-based acts as well as obscure house and Italo recordings.
Radio and DJ work
Vasicka presents a weekly show on East Village Radio called Minimal Wave and DJs regularly in New York City. Her work as a selector and label founder is closely tied to the archive of obscure electronic and underground music she builds through the website and the labels.
Musical projects
She is a member of 2VM and The Floor.
