Trio Tekke

Trio Tekke is a Cyprus-based group active since 2005, specialising in rebetiko and traditional Greek Rembetika with a contemporary approach. The trio consists of three musicians: two Cypriots and one Anglo-Chilean.

The group combines traditional material with reggae, Latin rhythms and other contemporary influences. It builds its sound through playful improvisation and draws on songs that reflect the joys, sorrows and difficulties of everyday life.

Its repertoire includes rearranged traditional tunes from the 1920s and 1930s as well as original material. The group also plays instrumental pieces that use eastern modes and complex time signatures derived from traditional Greek and Balkan rhythms.

Trio Tekke develops this style after extensive exploration of Rembetika in its original form and many live performances.
