Toshiki Soejima is a Japanese neo-soul guitarist, composer and educator, born in 1992. He begins playing guitar at 14 and develops a style that combines neo-soul, jazz, lo-fi hip-hop and instrumental R&B, with an emphasis on melodic guitar lines, soft keyboard textures and relaxed grooves.

Music and collaborations

Much of Soejima’s output is instrumental. He also works regularly with his wife, Nahokimama, whose vocals and musical contributions add a more intimate and reflective quality to their recordings. Their collaborative work explores ordinary emotions and quiet, atmospheric moments.

His releases include the EP Life and the joint Tokyo and Moyu EPs with Nahokimama. He also releases the full-length album Scene, which brings together earlier material and new tracks. Outside his own projects, he works with international artists including edbl.

Education and online presence

Soejima also works as an educator. He founds Soul Guitar Lab, an online music school focused on neo-soul guitar techniques, and it has more than 450 students. His live sessions and tutorials on streaming platforms and YouTube help build an international following.

Reception

His music receives airplay outside Japan and appears on curated playlists. Eric Clapton also names him among his favourite contemporary Japanese guitarists.
