Tom Williams and The Boat

Tom Williams and The Boat are a six-piece anti-folk band from Tunbridge Wells. They form as a development of Tom Williams’s solo work and centre on his songwriting.

The group’s line-up uses drums, bass, violins, guitars, mouth organs and pianos. Their music is described through references to folk, indie and pop, with a sound built around strong melodic writing and detailed lyrics.

The band support acts including The Wombats, Good Books, Jack Peñate, Jeremy Warmsley, Emmy the Great and Laura Marling, which helps build their audience. Early recordings include The Penguin EP, issued by UNlabel as a limited-edition CD with hand-finished artwork. It is recorded onto 2" tape at The Granary Studios in Lamberhurst, Kent, with a new group of players.
