Tiny Ruins

Tiny Ruins is a folk and indie folk project from Auckland, New Zealand, led by New Zealander Hollie Fullbrook, with Cass Basil also listed as a member. The project grows out of Fullbrook’s work as a musician and songwriter in Wellington, where she writes music for fringe theatre productions while studying and begins performing at live music and poetry nights in the late 2000s.

Origins

Tiny Ruins develops from Fullbrook’s songs being recorded on four-track equipment and circulated as rough demos by Samuel Prutton. The project starts to build a live reputation through intimate performances and hypnotic songs, attracting attention in New Zealand and beyond.

Early activity and recording

In 2007 to 2009, Fullbrook writes and performs material that becomes the basis of Tiny Ruins. The music is closely associated with small-scale, atmospheric performances and with the overlap between song, theatre, and poetry settings. The project is then asked to support Alasdair Roberts in Sydney in May 2010, after which it signs to Australia’s Spunk Records.
