Tigers That Talked are a Leeds-based UK group formed in 2006. The line-up comprises Owain Kelly, Glenna Larsen, Chris Verney and Jamie Williams. They are associated with folk rock and rock, and are also described as an art-rock four-piece with an indie rock edge.

Career

The group develops its sound from a series of singles released before its debut album, and builds a reputation over time rather than through a quick breakthrough. It releases music independently, including its first album, The Merchant, which appears after a run of acclaimed singles.

The band gains attention from UK radio figures including Zane Lowe, John Kennedy and Steve Lamacq. It also tours extensively in the UK for three years, sharing bills with Wild Beasts, Micah P Hinson and Broken Records.

Style and release history

The Merchant is described as a debut record that balances emotional depth with pop structure. The band’s music is presented as both melodic and experimental, with an anthemic quality and a fragile, uplifting character.

Live activity

Tigers That Talked continue to be active and are set up for international exposure through a showcase invitation at South by Southwest in Texas, following their UK touring and growing fanbase.
