THUS LOVE

THUS LOVE is a post-punk group from Brattleboro, Vermont. The band forms around a trio of self-identifying trans artists: Echo Mars, Lu Racine and Nathaniel van Osdol. Their work is closely tied to DIY practice, with the group living together, designing and producing their own merchandise, and building their own recording studio from scratch.

Formation and early activity

The project begins in 2018, when Mars and Racine meet at a local print shop and decide to work together on a new musical project. Van Osdol joins on bass in 2019, completing the lineup. The band starts to regularly headline The Stone Church in Brattleboro before live music is disrupted.

Working methods

THUS LOVE develops its material in a highly self-contained way. Mars builds a makeshift studio in the apartment above downtown Brattleboro, using online tutorials and recording at times when neighbours are away. The group’s approach reflects both its musical aims and the circumstances of the members’ shared life.
