Thursday

Thursday are an American post-hardcore band from New Brunswick, New Jersey, formed in 1997. Their line-up includes Geoff Rickly on lead vocals, Tom Keeley on lead guitar and backing vocals, Steve Pedulla on rhythm guitar and backing vocals, Tim Payne on bass guitar, Andrew Everding on keyboards and backing vocals, Tucker Rule on drums, and Bill Henderson, who is listed among the group’s members and played original guitar.

Career

The band release their debut album, Waiting, in 1999, with Bill Henderson still in the group. Henderson leaves in 2000 and Steve Pedulla takes his place on guitar. Thursday then gain wider attention with Full Collapse in 2001. Their third album, War All the Time, appears in 2003 as their major-label debut and reaches number seven on the US Billboard Top 200 Albums chart.

They follow with A City by the Light Divided in 2006, then Common Existence and No Devolución. The band later announce an indefinite hiatus in 2011, and Geoff Rickly says in 2013 that the group has disbanded. Thursday reunite in 2016, and that reunion ends with a performance at Saint Vitus in Brooklyn in March 2019.

Style and influence

Thursday are associated with alternative rock, emo and post-hardcore, and are identified as a New Jersey post-hardcore group. They are described as influential within the 2000s post-hardcore scene and as one of the bands that help popularise a darker emo style and screaming vocals in that period.
