Throwing Shade is a project by London producer and NTS Radio presenter Nabihah Iqbal. The name is associated with her electronic work, including a style she describes as “cosmic R&B” and “digital soul”.

Releases

The project follows Iqbal’s Mystic Places 12-inch, which appears on Kassem Mosse’s Omnira imprint. It also includes the EP 19 Jewels, which develops the same abstract sound world.

Style

Throwing Shade’s music draws on a wide range of influences, including African and Asian modes, alongside the sound of contemporary London. The result is described as a varied and abstract electronic patchwork.
