Thomas Gold

Thomas Gold is a Berlin-based DJ and producer, born in 1981. He works in house, electronic, electro house, club and tech trance, with verified genre tags also placing him in EDM and progressive house. He begins as a child learning the electronic organ, later developing an interest in digital synthesizers. At 15, he buys a Yamaha DX-11 synthesizer, which marks the start of his studio work.

Career

Gold breaks through internationally in 2010. In the same period, he is described by Axwell as a “breakthrough DJ / producer” and is named a “Rising Star 2010” by Beatport. He joins Toolroom Records, which takes him on as both a recording artist and a resident DJ for its Toolroom Knights events, appearing alongside DJs including Fedde le Grand and Mark Knight.

His releases gain support from a wide range of major dance artists, including Axwell, Sebastian Ingrosso, Tiësto, David Guetta, Chuckie, John Dahlbäck and Sander van Doorn. He also plays regular headline sets at venues such as Pacha, Privilege and Ministry of Sound.

Releases, remixes and collaborations

Among his notable releases is the EP Work That / Kananga on Toolroom Records, which leads download charts for several weeks. He also collaborates with Fatboy Slim on Star 69, which reaches number 4 on the Beatport progressive house chart. Another collaboration, What’s Up with Alex Kenji, is issued through Spinnin’ Records and receives support from Marco V, Bingo Players, Riley & Durrant, Tocadisco and Robbie Rivera.

Gold’s later productions are taken up by the labels of Steve Angello and Axwell, including SIZE and Axtone. He also releases Areena, a collaboration with David Tort and David Gausa, on Dirty South’s Phazing Recordings imprint. His third release on Toolroom Records, Marsch Marsch, becomes a regular feature in his sets and is noted for its marching rhythm and piano melody.

Remix work and recognition

His remix catalogue includes work for David Guetta, Fergie featuring LMFAO, David Tort, Norman Doray, Erick Morillo and Paul van Dyk. Beatport nominates him in its Best Progressive House Artist category in 2009, and he wins Best Progressive House Track for his remix of Delerium’s Silence.

Touring and performance

Gold tours widely, with appearances in Brazil, Mexico, Argentina, Japan, India, Dubai, Russia, Canada, the United States and many destinations across Europe. His DJ sets are described as working in both large festival environments and smaller club settings, and he plays at venues including Pacha Buenos Aires, Cameo Miami, Space and Sankeys in Manchester.
