Theory of a Deadman
Theory of a Deadman, often shortened to Theory, is a Canadian rock group from North Delta, British Columbia, active since 2001. Its line-up centres on Tyler Connolly on lead vocals and lead guitar, Dave Brenner on rhythm guitar, and Dean Back on bass. The band’s drummers over time are Tim Hart, Brent Fitz, Robin Diaz and Joey Dandeneau. The group is identified with alternative rock, hard rock, post-grunge and rock, and its sound also includes country, metal and more acoustic elements.
Formation and recording
The band forms after Connolly gives Nickelback vocalist Chad Kroeger a demo tape. Kroeger signs the group to 604 Records. Theory of a Deadman releases eight studio albums: Theory of a Deadman in 2002, Gasoline in 2005, Scars & Souvenirs in 2008, The Truth Is.. in 2011, Savages in 2014, Wake Up Call in 2017, Say Nothing in 2020 and Dinosaur in 2023.
Notable work
The band has three number-one singles on the Mainstream Rock Chart. It also provides the full soundtrack for the video game Indigo Prophecy, also known as Fahrenheit. Its fourth album, The Truth Is.., includes the song “I Lied About Everything”, which is inspired by Connolly’s divorce in 2010.
