The Walking Who

The Walking Who are a Sydney, Australia group made up of Rohin Brown, Jay Bird and Paul Mclean. The band plays psychedelic rock with alternative and rock elements, and its sound is described as changing between moods of optimism and darkness, with folk and country traces also present.

Releases and sound

The group’s debut EP, Mansions, is released in September and brings the band wider attention. Its follow-up EP is recorded after a series of disrupted backyard sessions, and the first single from those recordings is “With Roses”, mixed by Rudy from The Delta Riggs. The writing for that material takes place in Byron Bay, which the band says shapes the sound unexpectedly.

Live activity and recognition

The Walking Who gain support slots with The Growlers, King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard, The Delta Riggs, The Drones, Dappled Cities, Palms and Sticky Fingers. They also play shows alongside Dune Rats, Shining Bird and Wolf & Cub, and receive FBi Band of the Month recognition.

Style and line-up

The band’s line-up is described as fluid around its three core members, with their music compared to the sounds of Unknown Mortal Orchestra and Deerhunter. Their recording process includes multiple moves from makeshift backyard studios after complaints about loud and unusual noise, including one incident involving a brick through a host’s window.
