The Voodoo Trombone Quartet

The Voodoo Trombone Quartet are a group from the United Kingdom formed in 2004. They are based in London and are known for combining the feel of old ska 45s, lounge and exotica with humour and a contemporary dance-floor approach. Their music sits across ska, funk, downtempo and lounge styles.

Early releases and label debut

The band’s first tracks are made available free online by their creator as if they were rediscovered originals. The idea becomes popular in its own right, with the tracks attracting thousands of downloads each. Freshly Squeezed Music, an independent label, signs the group for their self-titled debut album in 2005.

Live activity

A live eight-piece line-up is later assembled to perform the material. The group is described as a fez-wearing act, with the line-up noting that there are not four members and that not all of them play trombone. They tour in clubs and at festivals across Europe, including Glastonbury and Bestival.
