The Virgins

The Virgins are an indie rock band from New York, United States, active from 2005 to 2013. They are based in New York City and are also described as an indie trio from Brooklyn. Their sound is associated with indie, indie rock, new wave, rock and funk.

Formation and line-up

The band forms after a Ryan McGinley photo shoot brings together Donald Cumming and Wade Oates to work on tracks Cumming has already started. Erik Ratensperger and Nick Ackerman join shortly afterwards. The group’s members include Xan Aird, Donald Cumming, John Eatherly, Max Kamins, Wade Oates, Erik Ratensperger, Paul Vassallo and Nick Zarin-Ackerman.

Erik Ratensperger leaves the band at the end of 2008 and is replaced by Kevin, whose surname is not given in the available information.

Activity and performances

The Virgins tour with Jet and open for Sonic Youth and Patti Smith. They also appear at SXSW, and five of their songs are featured in one episode of the CW series Gossip Girl.

Disbandment

The band splits in November 2013.
