The Very Best

The Very Best is a music project formed by Malawian singer and drummer Esau Mwamwaya and the production duo Radioclit. Mwamwaya is born in Mzuzu, Malawi, and grows up in Lilongwe, where he plays drums in several bands, including Masaka Band. He also works with the Malawian musician Evison Matafale for several years before Matafale is killed in police custody in 2003.

Background

Mwamwaya moves to London in 1999 and lives in East London, where he runs a second-hand furniture shop in Clapton. His shop is on the same street as Radioclit’s studio, and after the duo buy a bike from him, they invite him to a housewarming party. The meeting leads to friendship and then to music collaboration, which later takes the name The Very Best.
