The Tracks

The name The Tracks is used by several different bands, including a Glasgow soul rock group, a four-piece indie rock band from Manchester, and an LA-based indie rock band. The Manchester group is based in Chorlton and forms as a four-piece in January 2008. It performs in Manchester city centre venues such as Night & Day, Dry Bar and the Roadhouse, as well as in Chorlton, Stretford and Leeds, and makes its first London appearance in February 2010. Its early releases include three self-produced EPs, which lead to tracks such as “Beautiful Me, Beautiful You,” “It Doesn’t Matter,” “Statement of Intent” and “Resistance Is Down.”

Manchester band

This version of The Tracks works in indie rock and is described as drawing on sounds associated with the Strokes, the Jesus and Mary Chain, the Velvet Underground, glam, shoegazing and urban country. The group records two tracks at The Loudhailer studios in November 2009 with producer Deni, after previously preferring to self-produce. Those recordings become “Left Unsaid” and “No Turning Back,” with the first taking a slower, more inward-looking direction and the second taking a more upbeat form. By January 2010 the recordings are finished and the band is preparing further new material.

Los Angeles band

The LA-based indie rock band is a four-piece comprising Venancio Bermudez, Felipe Contreras, Jimmy Conde and Johnny Santana. It releases two albums in 2018 and 2022 and draws on rock and roll traditions shaped by the members’ upbringing as children of undocumented immigrants in East Los Angeles. Its music connects with Chicano band history and carries themes of defiance, working-class optimism and dancing as a form of rebellion.
