The Sway

The Sway are a rock and indie group from England, active from 1989 to the present. They begin life under the name Heavens Echo in June 1989, then change to The Sway in January 1991.

History

The original line-up consists of David Casson on vocals and guitar, Jim Kook on guitar, Paul Hogan on bass, and Sean Kelly on drums. After playing a run of local gigs and recording several demos, the group signs to Bad Habits Records. They go on to headline three UK tours and play more than 120 shows.

The band’s live profile includes two sold-out shows at the Marquee club in London, a performance at a Christian rock festival, and a premiere for their second single and video, “Going Blind”, at Planet Hollywood in London. Their final show before their first split takes place at BBC Music Live in Birmingham City Centre in May 1995.

Reformation

In May 2008, all four original members meet again in rehearsal to prepare a return after 13 years away. Casson has written new songs, originally intended for a solo project, and after being invited to play East Barnet Music Festival he contacts his former bandmates. The resulting set combines the new material with older Sway favourites. Keyboard player Matt Smith joins them for the performance at the festival in July 2008.

Recordings

The Sway’s singles include “Silk” and “Going Blind”, both of which reach the top 100. Their second single is accompanied by a video featuring dancing girls.
