The Strypes are a rock band from Cavan, Ireland, active since 2010. The group forms as a four-piece with Ross Farrelly on lead vocals and harmonica, Josh McClorey on lead guitar and vocals, Pete O'Hanlon on bass guitar and harmonica, and Evan Walsh on drums.

Style and early development

They begin by gigging around their hometown before moving on to clubs and pubs across Ireland. Their sets mix original songs with rhythm and blues covers. Their sound centres on fast-paced, gritty garage rock and blues, often described through the phrase "speed blues".

Influences and reception

The Strypes develop a live reputation through a style that draws on the approach of Dr. Feelgood and the intense rave-up format associated with The Yardbirds. Their performances gain a strong response from audiences across Ireland, helping establish them as a notable live act.
