The Stitches form in 1994 as a 1970s-style punk rock band from Orange County, California. They become known as one of the early influential bands in the Orange County punk rock scene and develop a large following while remaining on independent labels.

The band is associated with punk rock, punk, street punk, 77-style punk, and American punk. Their independent releases are linked with Disaster, Gold Standard Laboratories, Vinyl Dog, Suburbia, TKO, and Kapow.

They are also known for an unpredictable, high-energy live reputation.
