The Shortwave Set

The Shortwave Set are a London-based indie and rock group formed in 2003. They are a British psychedelic pop band who build songs from samples and live performance, and describe their sound as “Victorian Funk”.

Line-up

The group consists of Andrew Pettitt, who writes songs and performs vocals and guitar, Ulrika Bjorsne, who sings lead vocals and plays guitar, and David Farrell, who handles samples and decks. Bjorsne is originally from Alstermo in southern Sweden.

Releases and activity

Their debut album, The Debt Collection, comes out on Independiente/Sony in 2005. The band remains active and continues from its London base.

Touring and associations

The Shortwave Set tour with Goldfrapp, Rilo Kiley and Gnarls Barkley. Danger Mouse, one half of Gnarls Barkley and a hip-hop producer, describes the band as his favourite contemporary group.

Club night and management

The band runs a London club night called The Pawn Shop, which includes a tombola, a compere and DJ sets made entirely from records bought in charity shops. They are managed by Roger Dunwoody.
