The Shit Talkers

The Shit Talkers are a Vancouver punk rock group. Their songs grow out of conversation, observation and humour, with material drawn from the local Vancouver music scene and from the behaviour of friends around them. They write about a wide range of subjects, including sex, politics, hobbies, humour and ordinary daily events.

The group presents its music as a form of entertainment built around wordplay, crudeness and profanity, with “shit talk” understood as broad, unrestricted conversation rather than simple negativity. Their descriptions of themselves emphasise a playful approach, with the members portraying themselves as being in a continual kitchen-party atmosphere while they turn everyday situations and social antics into songs.

Their work also reflects a tendency to keep subjects deliberately ambiguous, with songs written about various people and events from their scene without identifying them directly.
