The Rakes
The Rakes are a UK indie rock band from London, active from 2002 to 2009. The group’s line-up includes Alan Donohoe, Matthew Swinnerton and Lasse Scheufens Petersen.
Career
The band releases its debut album, Capture/Release, in 2005. It attracts attention around the Reading and Leeds Festival, where the band appears in the NME Tent alongside acts such as Bloc Party and Maxïmo Park. In 2009, it releases its third and final album, Klang, which includes the singles 1989 and That’s the Reason. Later that year, the band announces that it splits with immediate effect.
Style and related projects
The Rakes are an alternative and indie rock group, with a sound described as lo-fi and associated with early Joy Division, along with guitar-driven arrangements and humorous, intelligent lyrics. Alan Donohoe also has a project called Champagne Campaign, and Lasse Petersen later joins Wolf Gang.
