The Pierces

The Pierces are an American sister duo made up of Allison Pierce and Cat Pierce. They originate from Birmingham and Los Angeles and are active from 2000 to the present. Their sound is associated with folk rock, indie pop and indie rock, and they are also described as singer-songwriters.

Career

The pair begin as former ballerinas before focusing on music. They release their self-titled debut album in 2000 on Epic. After moving to New York City, they release Light of the Moon on Universal in 2005. That record also receives a muted response.

After leaving their label and manager, they make changes to their approach and record their third album with producer Roger Greenawalt. Following a short run of support shows for Albert Hammond Jr. in November 2006, they receive a stronger critical response and better press. Thirteen Tales of Love and Revenge appears in 2007.

Later development

The Pierces also gain wider attention after appearing on an episode of Gossip Girl. Despite this publicity, sales do not improve. They later work with Coldplay bassist Guy Berryman, who produces their fourth album, You & I. This is their first release after signing to Polydor.
