The Others

The Others is the name used by several different acts, but the most prominent is the UK dubstep project associated with producer D-Code. It begins as a duo with DeXterious and later continues as D-Code alone. The act works in dubstep and related bass-heavy electronic styles, and releases material on labels including Dub Police, Tempa, Wheel & Deal, Boka and VeriLo.

UK dubstep project

The project first appears with the track Africa on Caspa’s Dub Police label in 2007. A follow-up, Africa VIP, becomes a well-known track and continues to receive strong DJ and radio play. In 2010, The Others release the Gravity EP, and its dubplates are played by major names in the scene, including N-Type and Mary Anne Hobbs. The project also appears on a number of high-profile dubstep mixes, including a mix with Roguestar for MISHKA NYC.

Under the name The Others, D-Code later releases the album Red Planet on Dub Police. The project is also identified with a number of grime and dub-related tags, reflecting its place within UK bass music.

Other acts using the name

The name The Others is also used by a British indie rock band led by Dominic Masters, with Johnny Others, Jimmy Lager, Eddie Darko and Joe Gardiner-Lowe. That group is discovered by Alan McGee and releases singles and albums on Universal and Lime Records, including The Others, Inward Parts, and the demo-based album Songs For The Disillusioned. It also issues the double A-side Hardly Know Me / I’ll Keep You Safe.

Another The Others is a Finnish cover side-project by members of 22-Pistepirkko, whose debut Monochromeset includes versions of songs by Jody Reynolds, Link Wray and The Kinks. The name also appears on various other groups, including a 1960s British beat band formed in Hampton, a garage band from Lancaster-Palmdale, a Belgian punk rock band formed in 2002, a hip-hop trio, a horror punk band from Binghamton, an indie pop band from Massachusetts, a Russian progressive gothic emo-rock band, a Romanian funk-and-jazz group, an emo band from Dale City, a tech-house collaboration between Bruno Pronsato and Daze Maxim, a hardcore band from Perth, and a garage band from Rhode Island.
