The Once
The Once is a folk group from St. John’s, Newfoundland and Labrador, active from 2004. It is made up of Geraldine Hollett, Phil Churchill and Andrew Dale. Hollett is from Burin, Churchill from Corner Brook and Dale from Coley’s Point.
The three members first meet in the summer of 2005 while working with the Rising Tide Theatre Company in Trinity. Their shared interest in folk and traditional music develops there, especially in the music of Newfoundland and the British Isles.
Their first album contains twelve songs, and it is recorded by Don Ellis and produced by Mark Neary. The group’s music is associated with folk, country, indie, indie folk and Newfoundland folk.
