The Old Dance School
The Old Dance School is a folk group from Birmingham, United Kingdom, active since 2006. The group is a seven-piece ensemble in its original form, and from 2015 it is known as The Fair Rain. It takes its name from the old Betty Fox school of ballet in Birmingham, where the band begins as a gathering of friends playing together in a garden and bringing songs and tunes for the group to develop.
Background
The members are trained at Birmingham Conservatoire, and they draw on experience from a wide range of settings, including international jazz festivals, European opera tours, film score work, classical recitals, green festivals and tattoo conventions. The band also performs, records and tours with artists including Martha Wainwright, Graham Coxon, Zoe Rahman, Neil Yates, Jim Perrin, The Destroyers, Martha Tilston, Kevin Dempsey, Joe Broughton and Chris While.
Recordings
The band releases music on Transition Records. Its album Based on a True Story appears in 2008 and is championed by BBC Radio 2’s Bob Harris. In 2010, after extensive touring and nearly forty festivals, the album Forecast is released.

The group includes Robin Beatty and Charlie Heys.
