The Monday Club
The Monday Club is a London-based group with an indie rock and indie pop sound, tagged also as indie, britpop and mod. The band forms around school friends Paul Hawksworth and Darren Ullyett, who start out playing together before recruiting Steve Scott on bass and Marc Wragg on drums. The group begins gigging in March 2010 after recording a demo called Champagne Talkers.
Recording and releases
The band records a four-track EP, Up is Up, at 2Fly Studios in Sheffield over two days in December 2010. The studio is known for previous use by Arctic Monkeys and Reverend and the Makers. The release presents the group’s thumping, swaggering indie rock style.
Live work and reception
Throughout 2010, The Monday Club plays headline shows at several Sheffield venues and secures weekend slots at the Manchester and Sheffield O2 Academy venues. The group earns a reputation for strong live performances, with one Sheffield publication describing its songs as especially catchy and its stage presence as confident and natural.
Music video
The band’s track Lay Down and Die receives a music video in March 2010, and the video wins Best Music Video at Crystal Palace International Film Festival.
