The Mighty Mighty Bosstones

The Mighty Mighty Bosstones are a ska punk band from Boston, United States, active from 1983 to 2022. The group’s name plays on Boston, and they are associated with ska, ska punk and punk rock. Their music is released on Big Rig.

Line-up

The band’s lineup includes Dicky Barrett on vocals, Joe Gittleman on bass, Lawrence Katz on guitar, Ben Carr as dancer and “Bosstone”, Joe Sirois on drums, Timothy “Johnny Vegas” Burton on saxophone, Kevin Lenear on saxophone and Chris Rhodes on trombone. Other members connected with the group include Josh Dalsimer, Nate Albert, Dennis Brockenborough, Roman Fleysher, John Goetchius and Leon Silva.

Career

The Mighty Mighty Bosstones start playing in Boston clubs in the mid-1980s. After a short period away because of members’ schooling commitments, they reform and release Devil’s Night Out on Taang! Records. During the 1990s, the band tours heavily, playing hundreds of shows a year and releasing records, while also scoring a rock radio hit with “Someday I Suppose”. They later sign to Mercury Records.

The band appears in the film Clueless. In 1997, “The Impression That I Get” and “The Rascal King” bring them mainstream attention. In 2000, they release Pay Attention. Their final album appears on Side One Dummy Records.

Hiatus and reunion

The Mighty Mighty Bosstones go on hiatus in 2003, saying they want to spend less time on the road and work on other things. They reform in 2007, play their 10th Hometown Throwdown in Boston, and release Medium Rare, a collection of rare B-sides and three new songs, including “Don’t Worry Desmond Dekker”. The band splits in 2022.
