The Manfreds

The Manfreds are a UK group formed in 1991 by key members of the 1960s Manfred Mann line-up, following a reunion that takes place for Tom McGuinness’ 50th birthday celebration. The group brings together original Manfred Mann members Paul Jones, Mike Hugg and Tom McGuinness, along with former member Mike d’Abo. The line-up also includes Rob Townsend, previously of Family, on drums, Marcus Cliffe on bass and Simon Currie on saxophone and flute.

Line-up and touring

Mike d’Abo does not appear on every tour, with his approval. The current touring formation described here includes Paul Jones, Tom McGuinness, Mike Hugg, Rob Townsend, Marcus Cliffe and Simon Currie. Marcus Cliffe is part of the group’s bass line-up.

Repertoire

The Manfreds are known for a set built around a mix of Manfred Mann hits, solo material from the members involved, and occasional surprises. Their ‘Hits, Jazz & Blues’ show combines the group’s best-known songs with jazz and blues influences, while the ‘Maximum Rhythm ‘n’ Blues’ tour brings back Mike d’Abo to share lead vocals with Paul Jones.

Special projects

Their ‘Maximum Rhythm ‘n’ Blues’ tour generally takes place in the latter part of every other year. In celebration of 60 years of Manfred Mann, the group presents a two-hour-plus concert focused on the band’s catalogue and solo material from its singers.
