The Majors

The Majors are an Italian punk rock group from Rome. The name is also used for an American R&B vocal group from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, which forms the main historical reference associated with the name.

American R&B group

The Philadelphia group forms in 1961 and includes Ricky Cordo as lead singer, whose falsetto is a notable part of the group’s sound. Producer Jerry Ragovoy notices the ensemble and produces their single “A Wonderful Dream”, which appears on Imperial Records in 1962. That release is the first of three charting hits for the group.

Style

The group is associated with R&B and vocal harmony singing, with doo-wop and soul also linked to the name in common usage.
